I was able to speak with two members of fraternities about their ban on partying. Here is what Alexandr Aksenchik, a member of ATO, had to say:
"Yes, the ban was warranted as people were dying and that is never good. Things were different because we couldnt have social events, which meant less girls, which initially upset some members of the frat. Most of them eventually realized that we needed to change how we acted. Most people thought that the self-imposed sanction was just, but some were upset with the fact that we had multiple events (date party, 1on1s) already planned that we had to call off."
Another student, Seth Wald, is a member of Alpha Epislon Pi. One of the students who died was a member of his house and a good friend of Seth's, so he understandably had a hard time talking about the subject. He had this to say:
"I’m really sorry I cannot answer all your questions because I’m still too emotionally involved with the loss of Ryan. My opinion on this situation is very biased considering I lost a close friend and brother. Regardless of the ban, our house would not have engaged in typical social parties. My house as a whole needed time to grieve and remember our belated brother."
